John Stuart Mill
Philip Dodd reassesses the significance of one of the giants of British philosophy, John Stuart Mill. Mill's fifty year career saw him work as a radical MP, argue for political reform, and write one of the seminal essays of the nineteenth century, On Liberty. 

Mill's life and work is now the subject of a biography by Richard Reeves, and tonight Richard Reeves joins Philip in the studio along with the MP David Willetts.

John Stuart Mill: Victorian Firebrand by Richard Reeves is published by Atlantic books.

Brick Lane
Following controversy and protests, Monica Ali's acclaimed debut novel, Brick Lane, has finally made it on to the big screen. Writer and critic Bidisha joins Philip to give the Night Waves verdict.

Brick Lane is released at cinemas nationwide from 16th November.
