Julian Barnes
Every first novel is said to be disguised autobiography so maybe the corollary is true and we can assume that every autobiography contains more than a little fiction. Julian Barnes' new book - Nothing to be Frightened Of - seems to hover over this very distinction in its scrutiny of God, family life and death. Philip Dodd talks to him about his dispassionate examination of the past and the lessons it has to teach us.
Nothing To Be Frightened Of by Julian Barnes is published by Cape.
Major Barbara
Actress Fiona Shaw reviews the National's new production of Major Barbara - written of course by her namesake, Bernard.
Major Barbara is at The Olivier Theatre, London from Tuesday 4th March.
GarageĀ
Film critic, Nigel Floyd, explains his enthusiasm for the work of Lenny Abrahamson who directed the painfully funny Adam and Paul and now Garage - starring Anne Marie Duff.
Garage is released on Friday 7th March.
America and Luck
That's not all either. taking their cue from the Donmar revival of The Man who had all the Luck -- one of Arthur Miller's earliest plays - Christopher Bigsby and the journalist Don Guttenplan consider what luck means to the American imagination.
The Man Who Had All The Luck is on at the Donmar from Wednesday 5th March.
