Paul Lansky: Post-Pastoral (3.05)
This is from a new album of pieces which use Handel's Messiah as a starting point. The project was the idea of the New York based musical collective Bang on a Can, and it brings together the likes of Scanner, John Oswald and Nobukazu Takemura. This interpretation is by the Radiohead-influencing Princeton University scholar Paul Lansky.

Guessmen: Average Fish (3.50)
Mixing It met the Guessmen when in Newcastle, recording a feature on the city's alternative music scene last year. The band consists of multi-instrumentalists Alan Edge, Tommy Anderson and John Ayers, who originally got together through attending improvisation sessions. This track features old Casio keyboards, sax, clarinet, and cello played by Laura Reid. Also audible are a series of recordings made in pubs around the band's studio.

Masada String Trio: Lachish (3.10)
To celebrate the 50th birthday of New York composer John Zorn, a series of 60 concerts (two a day) were performed at the Tonic club on Manhattan's Lower East Side. This is taken from one of those concerts, recorded 4th September 2003 and featuring Mark Feldman (violin); Erik Friedlander (cello); Greg Cohen (bass); John Zorn (conductor)

Hood: The Lost You (4.40)
Hood, from Leeds, are based around the brothers Chris and Richard Adams. They record in their home studio in the north of the city. This track features the cut-up vocals of Robert Wyatt, and also appears on an EP with the same name.

Monolog: Combinary (5.10)
Monolog is a Danish musician, DJ and producer, who also works as an electronics researcher at Aalborg University, and used to be a party organiser. His latest release takes the shape of two 12" EPs: Azúcar (Spanish for 'sugar') and Veneno (Spanish for 'poison'). This is the opening track on the lighter Azúcar release.

Sightings/Tom Smith: ECM the Money (6.05)
Sightings/Tom Smith: Richard Hoffman (bass); John Lockie (drums/electronics); Mark Morgan (guitar/keyboards); Tom Smith (voice/electronics)
Sightings recorded a raucous session for Mixing It just over a year ago. In the intervening time they have produced this album with Tom Smith of the band To Live and Shave in LA. The recordings took place in November last year in a tiny Brooklyn studio, then Tom took away the 4-track cassette masters and worked on them over a six month period.

Jhonn Balance, founder member of Coil, died on November 13th this year, following a fall from a first floor landing at his home.
