Interview: John French (11.35)
Also known as 'Drumbo', John French was the drummer, on and off, in Captain Beefheart's Magic Band between 1967 and 1978, and now sings and drums with the Magic Band sans the Captain. Drumbo still lives in Lancaster, which is the town a few miles north of Los Angeles on the borders of the Mojave desert. It's where Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa both grew up.

Madlib, real name Otis Jackson Jr, is a producer working mainly in the hip hop and jazz areas, although his influences encompass a much wider range of genres. He works under a number of different aliases, including DJ Rels, Lootpack, Yesterday's New Quintet, Madvillian (with MF Doom) and Jaylib (with J Dilla). He is also involved in some way with Quasimoto.
