Caural: Dead Armies (3'32")

Caural is Zachary Mastoon, a multi-instrumentalist and producer originally from Chicago. After studying jazz guitar and improvisation with Anthony Braxton at Wesleyan University, Indonesian Gamelan and Southeast Asian music aboard the Semester At Sea program and experimental electronic music at NYU, Caural briefly returned to Chicago in 2000. His debut CD, "Initial Experiments In 3-D" was released on NY's boutique label Toshoklabs and was followed by two EPs and a critically-acclaimed full-length for Chocolate Industries, "Stars On My Ceiling."

Formed in the late nineties the current Mugstar line-up dates back to 2002, with Peter Smyth on guitar/keyboards/bass, Neil Murphy on guitar, Jason Stoll - bass/sax and Steve Ashton on drums. The band are big fans of Neu and Hawkwind, classical music punk, electronica and folk.

Richard Ayres was born in Cornwall in 1965. In 1986 he followed Morton Feldman's classes at the Darmstadt and Dartington summer schools, and after this experience decided to make music a full-time occupation. He studied composition, electronic music, and trombone at the polytechnic in Huddersfield, and since September 1989 he has lived and worked in the Netherlands. He followed the postgraduate composition course at the Royal Conservatoire in Den Haag, studying with Louis Andriessen, and graduating in 1992. He was appointed as teacher of composition at the Royal Conservatoire in January 2004.

The follow-up to her 2004 debut, "The Milk Eyed Mender", Ys was recorded by Steve Albini, arranged by Van Dyke Parks, and edited and mixed by Jim O'Rourke. The resulting album has five epic songs with Joanna's voice and harp at the front of the mix.
