Jolly Joe's Jug Band: Love Old Memphis (3.21)
This comes from a 5 CD box set lifted from the extensive 78rpm collection of Joe Bussard, proprietor of the Fonotone 78rpm record label in Frederick, Maryland. Bussard is a legendary figure among record collectors, and many famous names have beaten a path to his door to hear some of his rare sides, only to be cajoled into making recordings themselves under various pseudonyms. So John Fahey became Blind Thomas, Stefan Grossman became Kid Future, and Mike Seeger became Birmingham Bill.
Recorded 2 October 1964 and featuring Joe Bussard (guitar and vocal), Bob Coltman (banjo), Oscar Myers (harmonica) and Jerry Marcum (jug)

Martin Denny: Exotica (3.04)
Martin Denny, who died last year, moved to Hawaii in 1954, where he formed his band with vibist Arthur Lyman, bassist John Kramer and percussionist Augie Colon two years later. Their incorporation of Hawaiian influences was a big hit at the time when Tiki culture was being embraced by mainstream America, and the 1957 album Exotica became a huge hit.
