Towering Inferno: The Rose (4.00)
Richard Wolfson, who was one half of Towering Inferno with Andy Saunders, died on February 1st this year. This track comes from Towering Inferno's 1995 album Kaddish: a meditation on the Holocaust which featured guest appearances from the likes of Marta Sebestyen (who can be heard on this track), Chris Cutler and Elton Dean. Brian Eno referred to the album as being the most frightening record he'd ever heard.

The Ex formed 25 years ago in the Netherlands, and this is from their newest album, recorded Autumn 2003 with Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago.
The Ex are Terrie, Andy, Rozemarie, Katherina and GW Sok. They are joined on this track by Anne-James Chaton (vocals) and John Butcher (sax)

Edil Husainov: Bul Bul Zaman (4.05)
Edil Husainov from Kazakhstan trained at the conservatoire in Almaty, specialising in traditional Kazakh instruments. This track includes the Kazakh Jew's harp (shan Kobyz), flute (sybyzgy) and zither (chatigan), as well as rock guitar, keyboards, bass and drums. There's also a burst of throat singing to reflect the song's Mongolian origins.
