Yuko Nexus6: Mura No Kayija (The Village Blacksmith) (5.02)
Yuko Nexus6 lives in Hikone, between Osaka and Nagoya in Japan. She is a part time lecturer in a couple of Nagoya's Arts and Science universities, spending much of the rest of her time as a sound artist specialising in vocal manipulation. On this, her fifth album, she has taken a selection of jazz, folk and traditional standards in Japanese, English and German as her material. This song is a children's song which remained on the Japanese curriculum from the 1910s right up to the 1970s.

Beans Hambone & El Morrow: Beans (2.52)
The Old Hat label have spent three years researching, sourcing and cleaning recordings for this release.
The American medicine shows of the early to mid 1900s were a bit like travelling circuses, where the aim was to sell potions and tonics. To attract customers, the folk who ran the shows would put on performances. Many well-known names like T-Bone Walker, Big Joe Williams, Gene Autry and Hank Williams cut their musical teeth in the medicine shows. Perhaps lesser known were James Albert ' Beans' Hambone (vocal/guitar) and El Morrow (guitar), who recorded this ode on 23 May 1931 in Charlotte, North Carolina. It went on to sell 385 copies.

Vashti Bunyan: Here Before (2.03)
Vashti Bunyan released her first album 'Just Another Diamond Day' in 1970. It was written as she travelled to the Isle of Skye in a horse-drawn caravan to live on Donovan's commune. However, the album came out to general indifference. It wasn't until 2000, when the album was re-released, that people began to really take interest, and Vashti was eventually coaxed out of retirement to play a set with Kieran Hebden and Adem at the 2003 Meltdown Festival. This led to her meeting Max Richter, who worked with her on the new material which went into this second album, released some 35 years after the first.
