Jez Nelson presents an exclusive session with the winner of the rising star category of this years BBC Jazz Awards, Gwilym Simcock.
Still in his early twenties, Gwilym is one of the most promising pianists and composers of his generation. He has already notched up an impressive list of sideman credits including Kenny Wheeler, Iain Ballamy and Bill Bruford.
For this, his recording debut as leader, he has composed a suite for jazz quintet and string quartet, with an all-star cast including drummer Martin France and saxophonists Stan Sulzmann and Tim Garland.
