Young American jazz critic Nate Chinen presents highlights from the 2007 Vision Festival, an annual New York event that showcases the best of the city's avant-garde jazz scene.
Featuring a new, large-group composition by bassist and festival-founder William Parker, music from guitarist Marc Ribot's Spiritual Unity and an all-star tribute to Albert Ayler that includes Henry Grimes, Roy Campbell and Chad Taylor. Plus music from trio Fieldwork, pianist and composer Myra Melford, Chicago trumpeter Corey Wilkes and Brooklyn duo Mary Halvorsen and Jessica Pavone.
