Critically lauded as the heir apparent to the piano trio tradition of Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans, Mehldau's new band - featuring drummer Jeff Ballard - has taken on a more intense rhythmic character. A musical anglophile, his repertoire features reworkings of Radiohead, The Beatles and Nick Drake, as well as jazz standards.
