Jez Nelson presents a session recording of New York tenor saxophonist David S Ware, recorded for Jazz on 3 in 1999 - featuring pianist Matthew Shipp, drummer Guillermo E Brown and master bassist William Parker.
Ware is a prominent figure in the city's avant-garde scene, and is frequently cited as an heir to the epic intensity of Coltrane. Yet despite the critical plaudits, it wasn't until the 1990s that he gave up part-time work as a cabbie.
