Jez Nelson presents a rare archive recording of jazz legend Miles Davis live in concert.
Recorded in Rotterdam in November 1969, this concert features Davis performing alongside Chick Corea on electric keyboard, saxophonist Wayne Shorter, bass player Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette on drums.
Falling between the trumpeter and composer's acoustic period and his electric bands of the 1970s, this band was rarely documented on record. They play a set that includes classic tracks associated with Miles Davis ensembles of that era, including Directions and Mascularo.
It is the first time this concert has been broadcast in the UK and it has never been made commercially available.
Listen Again?
As a condition of broadcasting the 1969 Rotterdam gig, the BBC has not been given permission to make this programme available in the Radio Player, so unfortunately it is not available to listen to again. Exceptions like this to online audio rights are rare. Apologies for the disappointment.
