I'm from Liverpool and sadly the "Capital of Culture" festivities give me the impression of a band playing while the ship sinks. Crime, drugs, obsessions with status all have contributed to rising debt. One cannot get good service in pubs or restaurants and the whole city pails when compared to many other countries, even in the UK the overall standards are low. Culture? how about education, this is what we need.

a culture by definition is the habit or behaviour of many, the rules'the way we do things round here'the heart of many survives by conforming, not questioning, the group includes like minded people'false consciousness'an inclusive group excludes non conformersthus all cultures are tolerant only at the edgesotherwise we would lead a life of'war of all against all'a totally tolerant culture could not survive, it has no rules, it would be chaos20080807

As a resident of Liverpool Phil Redmond and the culture team have done a brilliant job of creating a broad sweep of high and low, elitist and popular culture. Music drama art sport and street culture. Yes if you are tolerant and willing to try new things culture can be full of wonderful surprises. Phil and the team have exceeded all expectations thanks to their all inclusive aproach to what culture is and that culture is for and by everyone.

tolerance and an undertstanding of difference. a willingness to take risks, a sense of humour and the capacity to be uplifted. congratulations to Radio 3 and Radio Merseyside for taking us outside of our cultural comfort zone and making us think, freely.
