We think of it as the ends of the earth, if we think of it all, but to the world of Islam, Timbuktu was the golden city of scholars, with their rare books, glorious Qurans and accomplished chronicles. It's a unique manuscript heritage of world importance which still exists today. Joan Baxter enters into the homes and libraries of the people who are bringing this rich history into the 21st century.
