Andrew Manze introduces motets and madrigals by the 16th Century Flemish composer Philippe de Monte. Overshadowed in recent times by his contemporaries Lassus and Palestrina, De Monte was their equal during his lifetime, especially as a writer of madrigals. This sequence includes a number of specially made recordings in which Bo Holten conducts the BBC Singers. The musical connection between De Monte and William Byrd is also revealed in recordings from The Sixteen, conducted by Harry Christophers.
