When you consider the entire catalogue of the Early Music repertoire, surely no work is as pervasive in modern day life as Vivaldi's Quattro Stagioni, with the archetypal music of the seasons seeming to have crept into every facet of modern life.
Since their discovery, the history of these concerti have been as much about the performance as the music. Lucie Skeaping looks at some of the many recordings of the work, and examines through them how performances of the pieces have changed over the decades.
