    PIANOTHONS - RULES AND REGULATIONS


    1. The BBC will request the following information from candidates (when they subscribe online):

    (a) Name
    (b) Age
    * If an applicant is under 18 years of age, the applicant's parent will need to sign a consent from
    * if under aged, the BBC web-site will make sure the child is unidentifiable online
    (c) location
    (d) email
    (e) phone
    (f) How would you prefer us to contact you with further info about the event?
    (g) Your piece is.....and the duration is....(N.B. The duration of your performed piece must not be more than 8 minutes.)
    (h) The composer is..... *If you perform a piece by an unpublished living composer, please bring with you a written permission to record from the composer.
    (i) Will you be playing solo? If not, will you be performing four (or six!) hands on one piano or will you need two pianos? If you are applying as duettists or more, and you are under 18, please fill in the following group registration form which must be signed by your head teacher if you are a school group, or by one parent of each participant.

    (j) Have you played in public before? If so, tell us more.Whether you have or not will not affect whether or not you perform, this is for general information only.
    (k)Have you done any grade exams and if so which grade? As above


    Selection criteria:

    2. Applications must be in by 5pm on Friday 21st August 2009.


    3. BBC staff and close family are not eligible.


    4. No expenses will be paid.


    5. The BBC reserves the right to cancel or postpone the event if circumstances force it to do so. It will try to ensure that you are contacted in advance of any cancellation or postponement but cannot guarantee to do so.


    6. Only amateurs may participate. ie you are not eligible if you make your living as a professional pianist.


    7. After details are registered online, participants will receive an acknowledging receipt.


    8. The BBC is looking to broadcast a few of the performances, and will thus be making a selection which editorially reflects the varied and participatory nature of the events. By taking part at the event you grant the BBC full right to broadcast your performance free of charge on air or publish it online or in any medium as it thinks fit.


    9. The selection will depend on the BBC's need to create an editorially balanced event within the usual Radio 3 editorial brief.


    10. The BBC will contact you at least ten days before the event date to let you know if your application has been successful. Unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted.


    11. If your application isn't immediately successful there will be an opportunity to form part of a pool of 'reserve' pianists who can attend on the day, should an opportunity arise to perform. You will be contacted at least 5 days prior to the event if selected as a reserve.


    12. All under 16's must be accompanied to the event by a parent or guardian.


    13. You are welcome to bring along your own page turner but if you don’t have one then we will provide one.


    14. The BBC reserves the right to cancel this procedure at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion or if circumstances arise outside of its control.
