Radio 3 is broadcasting all nine of Vaughan Williams's symphonies, in order, during Afternoon Performance in July.

"Vaughan Williams's nine symphonies range from the choral Sea Symphony (Whitman text) and the picturesque London to the programmatic Sinfonia Antartica and the sternly 'absolute' Nos. 4, 5, 6 and 9. A wide range of orchestral colour is deployed in these works and in his large-scaled choral works such as Sancta Civitas." - Michael Kennedy
