From 7.00am Throughout the day, as part of its celebration of the centenary of WH Auden, Radio 3 broadcasts Horae Canonicae, his sequence of poems contemplating Good Friday through the seven offices of the monastic day. At approximately its proper hour, each piece is introduced by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, and read by Tom Durham. For Lauds, the first office, Auden has written a song heralding the new day, its solitude and company.
