1.00pm Radio 3 Lunchtime Concert
Continuing an exploration of Russian Romantic repertoire in a series of concerts from The Sage, Gateshead, baritone Sergei Leiferkus and pianist Semyon Skigin perform songs by three of the 'mighty five' composers. The programme begins with a selection of seven songs by Borodin and Cui, followed by a performance of Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death.
2.00pm Russian and British Music
With major works by the great Russian Romantic composers, focusing especially on Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, as well as British pieces ranging from the familiar to the neglected.
