Presented by Louise Fryer.
2.00pm BBC Proms 2008
Another chance to hear the Halle Orchestra's Prom with their current music director Mark Elder in Vaughan Williams' 8th Symphony, dedicated to the orchestra's then music director John Barbirolli, who premiered the work with the orchestra in 1956. This is followed by George Butterworth's orchestral rhapsody, which is heard alongside some of AE Housman's poems which inspired it.
The concert concludes with Bruch's ever-popular concerto, featuring violinist Janine Janson, and Richard Strauss' orchestral portrait of impudent trickster Till Eulenspiegel.
