Beethoven Plus

A run of concerts recorded at LSO St Luke's, featuring a complete series of Beethoven's string quartets coupled with masterpieces of the genre by Haydn and Bartok.

Composer David Matthews joins Fiona Talkington live in the studio to talk about his work and his musical enthusiasms: from Britten, who employed Matthews as his music assistant, to the late symphonic worlds of Sibelius and Mahler. Sibelius's Seventh Symphony was an influence on Matthews's Third, while David Matthews and his brother Colin both collaborated with Deryck Cooke on his 'performing version' of Mahler's final musical testament.
