9 October 2005

Sunday 9 October 2005 16:00-17:45 (Radio 3)

When an 11-year-old Benjamin Britten heard Frank Bridge's orchestral portrait The Sea, he was 'knocked sideways' by it, he later recalled. Here's a chance to hear the piece that later sowed the seeds for some of Britten's greatest work.

Plus, requests for an entrancing miniature from John Cage, and a BBC archive performance of Malcolm Binns as soloist in Liszt's Rhapsodie Espagnole, arranged for piano and orchestra by Busoni.
