The On Song Festival series 2006-08 takes place in London, Birmingham, Newcastle and Liverpool. It celebrates and showcases the UK's finest songwriters in each region, alongside local emerging talent, focusing on the whole process of writing, crafting and giving life to songs.
Each festival will be tailored to reflect the unique flavour of the host region's musical heritage, and will feature a mix of national and international songwriters, leading up to London On Song 2008 - an international songwriting trade fair. There will be a variety of musical genres featured such as Rock, Rhythm and Blues, Indie, Asian Fusion, World, Urban as well as contemporary styles.
This year, Birmingham hosts the second On Song festival, from 1 - 30 September. It includes an integrated education and emerging talent programme, where established songwriters worked with emerging local talent, plus symposiums, workshops and showcases to discuss and present current songwriting and broader industry issues.
Artists appearing as part of the festival include Ian McNabb, Amp Fiddler, Plain White T's, Chris Cornell, Regina Spektor and a very special night hosted by Radio 2's Janice Long featuring The Twang. The show will be recorded and you can hear highlights on Janice's show on Sunday 23 September.
