For me it is the heartache song and ecapsulates universal feeling of hurt better than any other song.

john, wales i'd heard this song many times over the years but only after my recent relationship break up I understand it. This song now always seems to give me a bit of strength if I ever bump into the x.
Jane Harris/Gillingham.Dorset The song is very poignant to me right now, having just broken up with someone.I think my tears really HAVE left tracks on my face, which I know only time will heal.
I have ALWAYS loved this song,as it epitomises the pain you feel when love goes wrong.Thank-you Smokey.
kristjan to me the ultimate version of this song is smokey performing it on a live album - i guess it's 'live in germany 1977' or sth. it's more down-tuned and much more menacing in an emotional way.
rob wallser plymouth alwats loved the song but once again the real meaning evaded me for years untill i heard the man himself explain that he imagined being so sad for so long that the tears he had cried had left a groove or track on his face ,epic sadness
