I love the way Paul managed to combine slow and fast in the same song
Angela, Pinner
Norman Rae It was okay for it's day, the album however does n't stand up against Revolver, Rubber Soul, Sgt Pepper, Imagine etc..
One or two decent songs the rest is well below par!
Probably was a turning point, heading downhill... N.Rae
Aberdeen
Gordon Davidson 'I Care Music' Elgin. Listen to any beatles song, and only a word or phrase dropped in occasionally, here and there, is one of the beatles voices. It was this that kept the beatles music 'fresh'. This was not the case with their solo works.
Jim Reid Great album, great memories. Still playing it after 32 years!
Glenn, Nottingham Sorry, but the solo work of Paul McCartney should NEVER be compared to the Beatles output.
Scouse Pie / Liverpool Macca's talent is showcased by songs like B.O.T.R, where a lot of popular musicians (especially today)would be happy to have created one melody and sustain it throughout the song. Here Macca takes three separate themes and uses them within the one piece. Fantastic - he is a master at it. Top man!
Andrew Nabagiez Paul never lost his ability for melody and songmanship. It seemed to me that he just stripped it down a bit for a while after all the Beatles high polish tunesmithing. Still, the first two McCartney albums shine in a simple sweet raw beauty.
Jon phillips Perth Western Australia A wonderful album, treasured in my collection. Paul is a giant who stands shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Beethoven, Brahms and Tchaikovsky.
Dede Vidal/Guaynabo Puerto Rico As a Macca Fan, I find "Band On The Run" as the most equisite album of Paul's solo repertoire. I can tell you, as a witness of musical history in the making, that BOTR made many people into Macca Fans, and converted Beatle-haters into Beatle-maniacs.
cb70 USA If RAM didn't convince people that McCartney could step out of the Beatles' shadow, then BOTR definately showed he could and did!
Philippe, Montreal Canada Paul McCartney is truly a master, and Band on the Run showed once and for all that he did not need the Beatles to be a genius, but that the Beatles did indeed owe a lot to him.
rizky, Indonesia Band on The Run saw McCartney's depth in thoughts, richness in musicality, yet mystical in lyrics, an epic!
Gary Conway, Bury, Lancs True Brilliance From McCartney its a very creative piece of songwriting and singing, people seem to forget that Paul has a very special and unique voice.
Juliana/ Belo Horizonte/ Brazil Band on the Run proved that there was life after The Beatles and that Paul Mccartney was stronger than ever
from a lead guitarist in Epping Forest 'Band on the run' like Dylan's 'Blood on the Tracks' emerged from a very patchy period of their respective careers. 'Band on the run' highlighted Macca's musical genius and knack for knocking out infectious tunes.
The song itself is a favourite singalong around the campfire.
Xavier Baudet Leiden, The Netherlands In a way Band On The Run was indeed the turning point. It was the first McCartney-album that received favourable criticism. But that doesn't mean it was his first good album. Robbie Williams says his favourite is RAM(1971). I agree with Mr Williams.
Mark Leeds BOTR is an epic track much like Bo Rhap and Stairway to heaven. It has several distinct phases ,oving from acoustic through to full on rock. Very much in keeping with other types of this early/mid seventies era and a track which stands proudly shoulder to shoulder with these greats.
paul, eastbourne macca was never worried about taking a risk and BAND ON THE RUN ,was just one more jewell in the great mans crown.
Amanda Lindsay, Leeds, UK The whole album showed he had definitely not lost his touch after the Beatles. It brought him many new fans and critical acclaim. He has gone on to a brilliant solo career, and not for nothing was he the opening and closing act at Live 8. There is no-one bigger in the rock/pop scene. A genius.
Glenn Peters Pittsburgh, PA USA Band on the Run is a great song and album. I am shocked that John Lennon would admit it.
peter from enfield cool song, that still sounds fresh
jim edinburg this song showed that macca could and still can deliver the goods.
Greg Abbott, London BOTR may have been a turning point commercially but RAM, his 2nd solo album was just as good (and Beatley) and had a couple of 'big', Abbey Road-esque songs on it. It certainly proved there was life after the Beatles (especially as it spawned a US number one single).
Tashi, New York City Band on the Run is a brilliant song on a brilliant album. It definitely showed sceptics that Sir Paul's career did not end when the Beatles did.
mark bradley,WHITBY,NORTH YORKS im sick of hearing how lennon was the genius/cool whilst macca was some kind of crappy sideman....what bo*****s....band on the run as a single is as good as music can get, typicall of mccartney from this period..I.e UNCLE ALBERT///BACK SEAT OF MY CAR songs that how more melody and hooks in one song than in most peoples albums...mccartneys solo work for me was by far the strongest of the ex fabs,i feel despite massive comercial succsess[wings were the best selling act in terms of records sold in the 1970s on the us charts!!!!!!] macca has been heavily criticised by the music press in this country and has often neglected his own work in favour keeping bootleg beatles fans happy at his concerts.....band on the run is a classic piece of genious,an essential album from a modern day mozart
Denise Shaw, Bicester Oxfordshire, formerly of Not Could have got in to Nottingham University to see your Wings Live gig for 50p.. "Long, long time ago....." to quote a famous song title. Still got my vinyl albumn. Lost my husband this year to cancer - age just 54 - feel such an empathy with you Paul. Never thought I would be a widow at 54. Saw you with J,G and Ringo in Nottm in 1963 and 1964 at the Odeon in Nottm. Took my hubby to see your Back in the World gig at B/ham on April 13th 2003. So glad he finally got to see you live.
Lots of Love
Denise Shaw
Amy, Cheshire Band On The Run is a brilliant song, one of McCartney's best and definately up there with The Beatles' masterpieces.
Paul Evans Calne Wilts I think that this is best album since The Beatles.
It was very brave and courage to have his wife in the band.
Linda i thought played and sang very well on every thing that Paul or Wings done>
Debashis Dutta, Tauranga, NZ Its one of those songs...every time you listen to it, it sounds better than it did the last!
Driffield All I need is a pint a day.....
Says it all!
Shirley, Aberdeen Absolutely and it's stood the test of time - still sounds great and fresh.
Neil - Bedford Has survived the ultimate test of time, the tracks on Band On The Run are relevent today
Sue Bliss, Cheltenham I love the overall sound but it always sounds to me like it was two bits of songs put together
Jerrie, netherlands Band on the run still is a masterpiece, all the well known tunes and with "1985" a perfect ending of a classic album. Listen to that song and be amazed.
Irene/Arnhem/Holland Band on the run was an instant classic. Even after being a Macca fan for a long time, I personally believe that he never scored a better album then Band on the Run. And I'm sure he (liking it or not) secretly thinks the very same. Irene
Mary and Colin Hall/ Stonehouse, Glos Band on the run is so evocative of a hot summer barbecue parties, with the music ringing out late in the night, we were at home with our little children just listening with so much pleasure. We still play it over and over. Yes it was one of Paul's finest moments, and is in the collection of musical moments that mean so much.
Keith Hawken Gloucester Paul's brilliant imagination has pulled off one of music's classic's.
and still one of my favourites 30 years on.
Darren Pitra/Bettendorf,IA,USA "Band on the Run"
is a mini pop opera
about escape that
truly explodes and
falls into the sun.
David Dornan, Bangor, County Down 'Band On The Run'sounds amazing live and is one of Paul's concert highlights.
dave eager paul showed whata great musician and composer he really is, like all genius he showed, when he was written of by some and doubted by others he shine
Greg Patton Brea, Ca. U.S.A. No question. Having John Lennon praise the work is enough in anybodys book. It still is, in my opinion, Pauls best work. From the rocker, 1985, to "Bluebird"(might be a slight reference to "Blackbird", who knows...)its an album/C.D, to be appreciated by any music critic. Tks. Patton
Greg Patton. Brea, Ca. U.S.A. Having John Lennon comliment Paul really speaks volumes. It still is, to this date, the best post-Beatle Album/C.D. that Paul has done. I still listen to it now, and then
Ron Jongepier, Netherlands From its first note an instant classic. I can play this song over and over again. There is so much to it; the guitars, the voices, the sound it's just all the right stuff.
Jack, Sudbury, Middlesex. Excellent song, in fact several songs in one.Love the electric guitar sounds just after the start.

Claudio Dirani, São Paulo, SP, Brazil
By relasing McCartney and Ram, Paul had indeed achieved commercial success. Although he felt he could carry on in the business he truly realised that he could only survive in the recording world by playing live and heading a group in the studio and onstage. Realsing he'd never done that before, the first two Wings albums had very mixed reactions from public and creature. After Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway, Band On The Run came to show that Paul needed to make choices. And it proved that, although he'd gone solo, his Beatles roots still were crying out to be rescued, and that was what he did. Band On The Run, the title track itself and the album, surely are a partnership work with Denny and Linda, but Paul's abilities as a musician, producer and composer ended up being a turning point for him in creative and commercial instances. The adversities of recording it in Africa also helped him out to overcome all the odds. It proved that it helped to make a great record out of the troubles as well.
Claudio Dirani, Sao Paulo It's such a complete and complex track that brings along all the production knowledge he got whilst in The Beatles. Several melodies and musical tracks make this fresh still after 32 years since its release.
Neil Cook - Milton Keynes It was a key moment in the music of the 70's. the best post-Beatle solo album by far.
Northbridge MA One of Paul's great songs it's a classic.
