| contender, as Elvis provided all the youth, energy and swagger that made the birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll so memorable. Sun Records boss Sam Phillips was heard to have said “If I could find a white man who had the Negro sound and the Negro feel, I could make a billion dollars.” Sam didn’t have to wait long, as during the summer of 1954, Elvis Presley recorded Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup’s vintage R & B song and without knowing it would change the face of popular music forever.
