Elaine Paige with Cameron Mackintosh
LES MISERABLES - THE NATION'S NUMBER ONE!

Do you hear the people sing? Well, if you do then they are probably singing the songs from Les Miserables, because it's the nation's most popular musical.

For six months, listeners to Elaine's show have been voting in their thousands for their favourite Essential Musical.

Our winning show drew remarkably:

- Thirty nine per cent of the emails we received.
- More than forty per cent of the phone votes you made.
- Over forty two per cent of the text votes cast .
- And more votes than any other show when it came to the post.

Listen Again - Elaine talks to Cameron Mackintosh

In voting, Celia Standen said "Les Miz is my all time favourite. There's nothing to touch it!." While Vicki Owen of Blackpool commented the musical is "inspiring and uplifting". And Roz Nightingale agrees, "I first saw it fifteen years ago and have seen it a total of four times. The music still sends shivers down my spine".

Another fan, Vicky Hardy from Northampton said "Les Miz must surely win. It's in a different class. The music soars and touches your heart and leaves you wanting more and more".

Hear Elaine present the award for the nation's number one musical to producer of "Les Miserables", Cameron Mackintosh. You can also see the award on display at the Queen's Theatre in London.
