A one-off stage version of the 2006 Radio Ballads series was specially commissioned for Glasgow's Celtic Connections festival in January and took place on Monday 22 January 2007 in the city's Royal Concert Hall Auditorium. Artists appearing included Kate Rusby, Karine Polwart, John Tams, Jez Lowe, Chris While and Julie Matthews, Bob Fox and Barry Coope with the Radio Ballads band (Andy Cutting, John McCusker and Andy Seward). The show took the form of two halves, the first consisting of musical highlights from five of the six Ballads - Horn Of The Hunter, The Song Of Steel, The Enemy That Lives Within, Thirty Years Of Conflict and Swings And Roundabouts. Act Two was devoted to the whole of the Clyde- and Tyne & Wear-inspired Ballad of the Big Ships in full. To enhance the experience, audio actuality from the series and a slide backdrop of images was intermixed with the live performances.
