'Rocket Man' is a 1972 song composed by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and originally performed by Elton. It's loosely based on the short story 'The Rocket Man' in Ray Bradbury's book 'The Illustrated Man'.
The song first appeared on Elton's album 'Honky Château' and reached No.2 in the UK Singles Chart and No.6 in the U.S.
Its most famous cover was by Kate Bush, whose reggae-inflected 1991 release of the song reached No.12. It was recorded for the Elton John/Bernie Taupin tribute album 'Two Rooms: Celebrating the Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin.'
Elviin performed the track during his Radio 2 Introduces gig at the Latitude festival on Friday 16 July 2009, and it was broadcast the following day during Dermot O'Leary's Saturday show.
