Taking their name from the lake behind Errigal Mountain in Donegal, Altan was first formed by Frankie Kennedy and Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh. They were the first band of their kind to be signed by a major record label, Virgin, in 1996. Their current album, Local Ground, is out now.
