News headlines on air Weekdays 12.45 & 5.45pm

Iain Mackenzie
Technology reporter
Where are you from?Selkirk in the Scottish Borders.
What were you doing before Radio 1?
I was a news and politics reporter for STV in Scotland. Before that I worked in commercial radio.
Best part of the job?
Arriving at work every morning, not knowing what you will be doing that day.
Worst on air moment?
Trying to do a live broadcast on TV with lots of yobs looming just off camera. This happened on an almost weekly basis.
Three words that describe you:
Creative, techy, hungry.
Advice to anyone who wants to get started in journalism:
Don't get too hung up on how other people do it. Find your own style. Start somewhere small like a local paper or radio station, you'll get more to do.
Who would you most like to interview?
Dieter Meier and Boris Blank from Swiss group Yello. They had a massive influence on the way dance music sounds today.
My top three albums ever are:
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
TLC - Crazy Sexy Cool
Who's your favourite news reporter?
Jeremy Thompson from Sky News. His ability to keep talking when live on location is amazing. Also Michael Crick from Newsnight. His sideways look at politics is always amusing.
How do you spend your time off?
Decorating my house. It feels like a never-ending job.
If wasn't a news reporter I'd be...
A photographer.
