News headlines on air Weekdays 12.45 & 5.45pm

Georgina Bowman
Presenter, Newsbeat
Where are you from?Manchester.
What were you doing before Radio 1?
Working at commercial radio stations around the north west, wishing I worked at Radio 1.
Best part of the job/ thing you're most proud of?
When I was 10, I used to tell people when I grew up I wanted to read the news on Radio 1. And smiling to myself as I interviewed Groove Armada at sunset on a private beach outside one of the most glam hotels in Miami.
Worst on air moment?
Here's just three:
Being so hungover the day after the Sony Awards where Newsbeat was nominated, that I could barely see, let alone read the news.
Trying not to laugh and failing, interviewing a man who thought he'd been holding an unexploded bomb for four hours. Turned out it was an old car part, but he was so scared he taped his thumb to it to stop it going off.
Saying "Premiership babies" instead of "premature babies", because I'd been thinking about the sport. There are many, many more.
Three words that describe you?
Newsbeat's Georgina Bowman.
Advice to anyone who wants to get started in journalism?
Do as much work experience as you can. That's how I got my first job. Most people here went to uni and did a post-grad in journalism - it's probably the most obvious way, but it didn't work for me.
Where would you like to be in 10 years' time?
Somewhere thinking about the brilliant time I was having 10 years ago.
What's on your walls at home?
A framed Grace Jones album cover, and an arty photo I took of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York when I was there for the first anniversary of September 11.
Who's your favourite news reporter and why?
Newsbeat's Sue Carter. She said she'd buy me a drink if I put her name.
