The nominations for the 2005 Brit Awards were announced yesterday (Monday) with Franz Ferdinand leading the pack with nods in five categories, including Best British Band.
To see the full list of nominations click here. New UK bands such as Keane, Snow Patrol and Kasabian made a strong appearance, they're up for three awards each including Best British Album and Best British Group.

There is also strong competition for international awards, with The Killers, Maroon 5 and Scissor Sisters all up for three awards.
But we want to know what you think about the shortlist and whether you reckon they got it right?
Perhaps you think it should be Dizzee Rascal not Jamie Cullum that's up for Best British Male? Are there artists or bands you think should have been included, for example Razorlight? Can Robbie Williams win Best British Single from the last twenty-five years?
Do Franz deserve to walk away with a fistful of gongs? With many new bands in the line-up has pop been snubbed and who you don't reckon will be around this time next year?
However you feel about the nominations - whether you think they missed your favourites out, or put some clangers in - let us know …
katy
have got to win best pop. they write their own songs, perform live everytime and bring a new type of music to the charts. even if you're not a fan, u've gotta admit that they deserve it over girls aloud who ive nevr seen sing live and are only successful coz their good to look at. for the sake of music, mcfly have gotta win, if not i'll lose all faith in mucic!
Dave
Glad too see some quality rock bands there! At least this time 'band' means band and not someone that sings other peoples records and copies songs *cough* blue *cough*
ash
keane rock and will scoop a few awards, good luck lads and maroon 5 deserve 1 or 2 awards good luck with the continuous hard work to both bands and to the near future
Helen and Aimee
GREENDAY should get an award as they rock harder than any one!!!! The Killers also rock and have some of the most coolest songs eva and should get some awards!!! Mcfly boys are well FIT an have great tracks on there new album, plus danny has such a sweet face!!! WE LUVVVV THEM!!!!! xXx
Helen
Where are Razorlight, Embrace, LostProphets and the GLC???
marmite
Razorlight should certainly have been acknowledged. Great music, fab drummer and flipping hardworking... still, there's always the NME awards and then next year!
Andy
Muse should win everything..even awards they're not nominated for.
Jimmy, Cawood
Firstly, where are razorlight lost prophets and the cure? Keane are the most depressing band I've ever heard. best album? how? all their tracks sound the same!
Muse are the best british band without a doubt but how can their album absolution be up for an award two years in a row?
Jet haven't released any new or decent material since 2003 so how did they get nominated? And who is tom waits???
HopeyD
Go McFly! Go Franz Ferdinand! Go Joss Stone! Go Jamelia! Go Tasha Bedingfield (but what's her bro doing there?)! Go Greenday! Go Maroon 5! If any of these people win, I'll be sooo happy. But George Michael? Best album? I don't think so...
samantha , sheffield
The brits are for little kids who think that will young is the best british male! yeh right, role on NME Awards!
gemma
Why on earth are Robbie Williams and Will Young nominated for best song in 25 years alongside 'proper' acts like Joy Division, Kate Bush and Queen? Surely they had better songs to choose from - they didn't need to scrape the barrel that desperately. How embarrasing - as a nation we've produced far better music.
kim
i've been searching and searching, but i can't find any nomination for anastacia... is this a mistake or didn't i looked well enough? she should be nominated for at least best female and best album!
richard
unlike other bands today muse make their name by constantly playing live shows all over the world. they have been touring since 2003 and ended with 2 sell-out dates at earls court in december. you don't hear much about them on cd:uk or top of the pops but people like Kerrang, Q and NME will tell u that muse are the BEST LIVE and BEST ROCK band around and will be for some time!!!
James, Salisbury
Anastacia really deserves to win, she shouldnt have been beaten by Kyle in 2002, she had an amazing 2004, and deserves this sort of recognition for it!!!
sophie,hagley
i want the sissersistas,Green day and Gwen Staffani she rocks da whole world!!!!
Chloe
how on earth did Leave Right Now get nominated for Best Song? Green Day for International Group and McFly for Pop Act!
Gavin Culloty, Birmingham , UK
Just three words for the Best British Single of the last 25 Years and that is: VOTE JOY DIVISION! 25 years on from singer Ian Curtis's death and it's still timeless and it beats the hell out of the 'Cowell-pop' that has been dominating music for the past few years. Having said that with Franz Ferdinand, Muse, Keane,Kasabian and The Libertines around the music scene in this Country is in a healthy state. And If JD do win it would be a fitting tribute to John Peel-A true music Champion.
Peter , Livingston
MORRISSEY should win best male. His input to the music scene has spread over 20 years penning classics such as ,There us a light that never goes out , panic ,Ask,Irish blood english heart, the first of the gang to die.His influence on the british music scene has been mentioned through the likes of Oasis, the killers , The Ordinary boys.Lets Give him the recognitionhe deserves
Thanks
Peter Mckinlay
Gary Finlay
Anastacia should be up for international album as well as international female and win both!
Why has Katie Melua been snubbed for the second year in a row?
hayley
i think chemial brothers are so gooooooooooooooooooood get in the chemical brothes i did like them untill there new sigle well my finger is on the button lol
vivi
Embrace had a wonderful comeback last year, so why aren't they nominated???

Jennie
I think there have been a lot of good artists around this year i want marron 5,keane, scissor scisters,Snow patrol and JAMELIA to win something EVERYONE VOTE 4SNOW PATROL!!!!!! :D
Mark Stanley
How comes there are never any british heavy metal bands put foward for this , what,s wrong are they scared of a change?
matt m
I definately think that the hives should at least be nominated for best live act as they are great
Jake
Joss stone and anastacia should Defo win something they've got really really gud vioces
KandEMcD
When people say Jamie Cullum shouldn't win Best Live Act it can only be because they haven't seen him on stage. He is absolutely amazing and sells out here in Britain and all over the world. Good luck Jamie, you should easily win both categories.
Michaela
I'm surprised Razorlight aren't up there even though I'm not really a fan. I think Green Day really should be up for more than one award and find Keane really over-rated! I'd rather chew my own arm off than buy an album of theirs, soooooooo boring they shouldn't be nominated!
Kat
Where are lostprophets and razrlight?Plzd Kasabian is up there!rox on Kasabian
dahlia
GO AVRIL LAVIGNE!!!!!! avril should so win an award like she did a free show to help raise money for the tsaunmi victims she should atleast get credit for that!
Aliya
i hope keane n maroon 5 win something!
Mathews
First of all who is Tom Wait? And why is RAZORLIGHT NOT UP FOR ANY AWARD!!! They were the second best band of last year behind the fantastic Franz Ferdinand. Why is Jet up for an award there rubbish!
Lisa, P
Keane's execellent - rock on!
Daniel
Keane are the best in the best breakthrough artist because there music is so different guitarless rock!! there album hopes and fears is Fantastic i encourage everyone to get there album and turn it up!!!
jetts scotland
got too be joss stone and sissor sisters,
Becky
Joss Stone desverves to win a Brit! Shes amazin! and shes def an inspiration to me and the many other ppl! and McFly def deserve to win a brit coz the are just sooo amazin!
Razorlight fan
I cannot believe Razorlight havent been nominated for anything, they have been one of the best bands to come out of 2004 and are amazing live. such injustice!!Glad to see the killers and kasabian up for awards anyway.
Georgina
Go Keane! They should SO win Best British Breakthrough Act and Best British Group! Their songs are incredible, so antemic. I saw them live in Cardiff, they were electrifying! There's nothing more amazing than Bedshaped sung by 60000 people at top volume! Maroon 5 should totally win every catergory they're nominated in. Their album is fantastic! What is Lemar doing in Best British Solo Artist? He's dreadful!!!!!!!!!!! That needs sorting, man!
andrew
Good see muse, kasabian,Franz, keane and snow patrol have all been recognised by the Brits and officialy 'got there'. All in all its been one of the best years for British indie ever(with the exception of Muse{what WOULD you call bellemys opra/rock?-its definatly not indie, but great all the same),and with bands like the Futureheads,Kaiser cheifs,Bloc party and thirteen senses all finaly making it onto radio playlists across the country, the 2005 is looking to be just as good, if not better.
sarah wells
The only thing I have to say is why on earth isn't Will Young Performing? I seriously would like an answer to this please.
HollyMae
I really hope Anastacia wins, She's one hell of a lady, and she's been through so much. I think she deserves to win something!
Annie B
good Brits this year - hope Will cleans up his three - deserves to/fab singer - Scissor sisters - deserve success to.
M Jones
2004 was a great year for British bands so it is good to see Franz Ferdinand, Keane, Snow Patrol and the like up there amongst the nominations. Well done to Natasha Beddingfield and Joss Stone who have been recognised for bringing some life back into British pop. However, like john b, I am shocked that Razorlight are not up there and I'm sure Avril Lavigne isn't British!
kiara
Mcflu are amazing and shud sooo win one award. Their musics really fun and dougies fittttt. The Killers are the best tought and I think they soo deserve something. I love them sooo much at the mo.
maroon 5 are good to.
aidz belfast
sugababes!! yay!!! they soo deserve the nomo 4 'best single'....even if it was a bit belated.....they shud win that...jamelia & kasabian deserve 2 win thier categories! best international female is such a hard one, but alicia shud win it!!
Emily
Will Young should definately win Best Male this year - why is Lemar even nominated??? And Will should also win best single - Your Game is amazing live.
I'm glad the Killers have been nominated as well =)
Karen T
Hi there! I live in Singapore and I have been following the Brit charts since I was a kid...my vote goes to Franz Ferdinand! But if I had 2nd and 3rd choices, I would add The Killers and Jet....Brit music rocks!!!! :-)
Lexi
Snow Patrol All The Way. Class songs, Great Live, Win More
Marie
made up maroon 5 have nominations, best group to come from the US i a while. GO BOYS!!!
Claire H
I have to say that although Franz ferdinand's album is sensational i would easily give that gong to Keane.Their songs are amazingly emotional and always make me smile. Jamie Cullum for best live act that's not a very funny! but you never know?*? where's razorlight???
Emily
Liking most of the nominations, hoping Will Young will win a couple, he definitely deserves Best Male after his fantastic 2004. I'd prefer Snow Patrol or Keane to win some awards over Franz Ferdinand..but thats unlikely. Very happy with The Killers nominations, what a great band!
Kia
Maroon 5 and the Scissor Sisters for me and Lemar for best male, he has such a silky voice, not like the grating sounds that are omitted for the mouth of the Oh so wonderfully poplular Mr Young! Give us a break pleeez, the only reason Will gets all these awards is becuase he has fans frantically voting and voting again constantly, the proof is in the comments listed above mine. Lemar is an immensely talented young man that deserves MORE credit than he receives, I saw both Lemar and Will in concert last year and the best performance by far was Lemar.
funky chicken
Where are the GLC !!!!!!!!!
Aurora
Prepare for Franz Ferdinands world domination!!!!!!!!
Brionny
Muse should win everything they're up for. They rock! Snow Patrol deserve to get something & Keane as well. Franz Ferinand don't bring anything to music & shouldn't win anything. What about the Lostprophets????? Shocking! & yeah McFLY should get their award. They may be pop but their good! Brionny
laura
Will sholud won best male.
And as for best song. The way i see it is, the brit committee took the best song from each year of the brits, and LRN was the best song in 2003.Then the pubic voted, and LRN was voted for, and is now in the last 5. So please stop moaning
kate
The brits have yet again snubbed Will young by not asking him to perform, why i ask, is it because he is a winner of a reality show, no because if that was true Lemar would not be peforming either, so why do the Brits continue to snub Will, how can they when surely they must be aware of how popular he is, huge record sales and sell out tours, in fact nobody in the best male catagory has matched Wills sucess of 2004 and yet everyone is touting Lemar as the winner, incredible? Yes Lemar can sing but his sales fall far short of Wills as does his popularity, he does not posess a tenth of Wills charisma and stage presence, if he wins it will be a crime. You would think that they would like a huge cheer at the Brits this year after the muted response to last years male Winner.
Alina, Sheffield
forget razorlight.... where are the music? welcome to the north is a great album. glad muse are nominated, though.
K n K n J
Will Young should win for all 3 nominations his up for!! GO WILLLLLLLLL
Gwen, liverpool
Muse should win all the awards they are up for, but why wasn't absolution nominated kast year? Still, hope they win it this time. And will young best single of past 25 years? not even will young himself would vote for that!
LauraS
I would like to see Jamie Cullum win the best male award, he is far superior to Will Young. I'm looking forward to the Bedingfield duet on the night as well.
Matthew May
I was angry when I first read the nominations and George Michael was not even up for any awards until the recent error which now means he is up for Best British Single. What is the matter with people. George should be up for more awards because he had a great 2004 with the album Patience going straight to No.1 and getting 2 top 10 singles and this shows he is still a force to be reckoned with. Amazing is a great song to listen and dance to and I am hoping he wins the award because he deserves it and it will be his first Brit for eight years because he won Best Male in 1997 but of course he wasn't there because his mum was dying of cancer and he was at her bedside. George Michael is the King of British Pop.
Milly
Best song where is Natasha Bedingfield i thought she wa no 5 top selling record re will Young no 7!!!!!! puzzled
Elizabeth
I don't understand why a few of you are stunned that Will Youngs Leave Right Now is up for best 25. It is a favourite with the British Public, they voted for it to be there. It has earned it's right to be there, with huge sales, an Ivor Norvello award. Will should have been up for best live act too as he always sings live effortlessly with tours selling out over 50 venues, and an album that has sold over 1.5 million, does that not prove his popularity? And why on earth was he not up for best album too. Oh, I get it...He came from a TV talent show, and so what? He is one of the best vocals of the last 20 years.
Caitlin M
Whoever decided to include Will Young in the nominations? He is vastly overrated and has no charisma or stage presence.
If there's any justice JAMIE CULLUM will win Best Male. He is streets ahead of any other male solo artist, not only in Britain, but also the rest of the world!
Linda .
Ok right best male , Should be will young , has acheived so so much this year , and worked so hard 2 sell out tours . should hav got it last year aswell , also best single , your game is great ! and also best song in 25 yrs , because that is a classic everyone loves it . AND IF HE DOES NOT get best male I AM NEVER EVER WATCHING THE BRITS AGAIN .
SAMANTHA LUDLOW
Will Young for best Male, and Scissor Sisters for International group
Sannie!
Joss Stone is the best!!!I really love her and her super duper voice!!!!!
Alex Mc
If Green Day dont win their catagory then there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with the world today - no other band on that list has a career even aproaching the calibre of the Bay area three!!
steve
muse should win due to there summer gigs that they played
PASCHA
STREETS ARE HEAVY BUT MIKES SIDEKICK LEO IHENACHO SHOULD GET BEST MALE HE IS THE REAL TALENT HE MAKES THE PERFORMANCE
charlotte higgins
its going to be great this year even though eminem has not been nominated love charlotte
grace n jade
its gud
lori
im sorry, but mcfly up for an award? WHY? They suck, glad to see Snow Patrol, Muse and Kasabian up there, but its obvious FF will win. I hope Keane win something cos theyve had a great year.
Tara, Plymouth
i think Joss deserves at least one award from her three nominations, as she's had an incredible year, and has released two brilliant albums, and a amazing voice. a true talent.
I'm suprised busted didnt get a nomination, even though i really dont like them, they have worked hard and released some catchy pop tunes.
samara
GO NATASHA!!!!!!
bum
I think Snow Patrol because they sound unique and their songs are just great!!!!
darren
Joss Stone is a legend and deserves to win the new break through act!!!
Francis
Joss Stone deserves to win all of the awards, as she has had a #1 album. More or less cracked the U.S. Had huge sucess with her album before that, and has an amazing voice! All this done in a year, and a little bit lol.
egor
Natasha Bedingfield, Joss Stone and Keane should win.
McFly should fail. Westlife & Spears - who are they?
ellie
werez lostprophets ay yeah there not there thats depressin
Giovanna
I'm happy with the nominations. Franz Ferdinand really deserve all their nominations, and they deserve to win all of them!!!
If Mcfly win best pop act i think i'm going to swallow my legs!
Ioan
Rather cheesed off not to see Razorlight there but then again they will probably take the vacant space of The Libs next year. I guess I underestimated Kasabian though. Also, correct if I'm wrong but Outkast's Speakerboxxx/Love Below album was nominated last year so how do they figure that out, plus what chance does it have against huge albums like U2,Killers and Scissor Sisters.
Jo
RAZORLIGHT RAZORLIGHT RAZORLIGHT
sandie
Why is Will not included on the Brit's stage show?instead we are to be inflicted with the Bedingfields dueting .WILL YOUNG HAS HAD A BRILLIANT YEAR with sell out shows 5+platinum selling Album has a marvellous singing voice also sings live no miming ,nor does he shout ,a beautiful natural singer that hopefully gets the recognition he deserves: we should be cherishing our good Artistes, the rest will eventually fade into oblivion
Emma
Muse should win everything they are nominated for, they are out of this world live produce amazing albums and are by far the best British and best Rock in the country. They are always overlooked by music shows and despite being THE ONLY BRITISH BAND to win MTV awards last year, Beating FRANZ they are still not mentioned as major contenders. Hope that they beat Franz again and the best band wins :-)
Harry H
Where the Hell are Razorlight?!?! they are by leaps and bounds, one of,if not THE best band to come out of this country and they have been seriously ignored!?! their live performances are unique and there is so much energy in their band! give them some credit at least even if it is'nt a nomination!
fairydust
where the hell is eminem?????
hello? after everything hes bin through he deserves WAY more thn one nomination.
will young SUX
the streetss 4 best solo male and
keane 4 best album x
Sarah
One thing that baffles me is this, how come Snow Patrol's "Run" didn't make it onto the best single nominations. That song was THE anthem of last year. That "light up, light up" chorus always gets sung by people.
Superb song!!
Shan
I think Morrissey should win best male just because of what he has done for music, not only is he a legend in his own right but the smiths are by far the best band ever, why wasnt one of their songs nominated for best song, instead of will young or robbie!?! Despite them being good artists but they just havnt been around long enough. Maroon 5 should win something i feel because they have done so well last year and The Killers are just brillinat, so amazing!! Let them win something, they deserve it, would be a crime otherwise Hot Fuss is the best album in a long time!!
Emma
Good to see Kasabian and The Killers up for awards. But where are Lostprophets, Razorlight and Thirteen Senses? Surely they're good British bands and deserve some kind of award?
Kayleigh
i think keane shuld win an award cuz they do make reeli gd songz , am not reeli a fan of their kinda music but they r gd
Maxo
Keane, franz ferdinand & snow patrol should win the lot!
Keith A
Eh..Hello??? Where's George Michael's Patience in the best album category? By far the best album of the year. And for that matter, he should be included in the best British Male category also
Fiona
I live in Mallorca and i´ve just found out who are nominated this year, and i´m dissapointed that Il divo did´nt get a mention. I think they are great. They certainly know how to sing. Much better than some that are nominated.
laura g
I think MUSE will win the best live band because they are brilliant live ive been to there concerts and there ace. go MUSE *)
Aaron Callan, Limavady
Where is Robbie the rest of the males are just pretenders to his crown as the greatest british artist around!!!!!
Aaron Callan
Where is Robbie the rest of the males are just pretenders to his crown as the greatest british artist around!!!!!
Ellie
Umm, best album, why isn't the Libertines there? Surely that was the best album of last year. And best single Take me Out, surely, or maybe Can't Stand Me Now?! Why aren't they there? :-(
muaahaha
ok first of all joss stone SHOULD NOT be there.ok she has the voice but not worthy of all those awards.
I truly think that mcfly should win the award but theyve been nominated in the wrong category as that award should have been busted they truly deserved an award for there success last year.Maroon 5 dont deserve any awards as theyve gotten far 2 much undeserved already.Franz Ferdinand definitely deserve their awards and so do muse.im torn between them
American Amy
Muse deffo for best live act. Snow Patrol for Best Album. Stick Franz somewhere, but a sweep on the basis of a single album?! Or is that the attention span of the average listener? Morrissey is legendary and if international success helps one win, Moz blows everyone on this list to pieces.
suz
great to see the Zutons up, after seeing them at Portsmouth i def think they desereve to be nominated but probs arent well known enough to win.
Tom - muse fan
thank god Muse are finally getting the recognition they deserve, they are amazing! however, i am sorely that Razorlight were totally overlooked, their debut album was incredible! Muse should definitely win Live and Band, it would be a joke if they didn't. It still amazes me how they suffered so much, what with the drummers dad dying whilst watching his son perform live, and then going on to deliver a mind blowing performance at Glastoand two incredible gigs at Earls Court. Also, leave Franz alone; they had an amazing year and deserve to win something. Fingers crossed for The Killers and Scissor Sisters, both fantastic acts that deserve to win.
Charlotte
Muse should win at least in 2 categories. Best live act for sure. Never have witnessed something like Matt Bellamy energy on stage. Rock on MUSE!! The Best British album & band by far. Kasabian should also be included for a gong.
franz fan
i love franz ferdinand well done best single take me out and where's razorlight
henry
If muse come away with nothing, it will be criminal, is there anyone out there that went to earls court because that was immense! best live act without a doubt, rock on muse
**Rachel**
me thinks dat McFLY shud b up 4 more nominations ie BEST NEWCOMER!?!?coz dis time lst year McFLY woz still a guy in a movie!(",)went 2 c dem on tour FANDABBYDOZY!!! XxX
Andrew Boxall
I agree with the nominations especially Kasabian they rock I'd never heard of them until i saw them at Reading this year with my friend (who's cousin plays the bass guitar in Kasabian!!!) We were both unaware of there talent and were blown away and since then i've been a big fan. Its great that such a variety of music has been represented and the nominations spell out the fact that British Music is the best in the world!!!!!!
Leanne s
I think its going to be a tough award show. There are many really really good bands. I think that muse will definately win an award, as they have become more and more popular in the past year. Though kasabian have released a couple of really good songs, and i think it would be a shock if they won, as they are unlikely to beat great bands such as muse and franz fedinand, but i wouldnt be disappointed if they did, cus they are quite good. I really dont want Jamelia dn Usher to win any awards! They are rubbish! Theyve also had many awards from previous shows so i think its time they let the better bands have them.
alice
mcfly really should win best pop act, it has been an outstanding year for them. sad not to see blue up there...guess it's signalling the end :( ....
alsi'm pretty peeved that razorlight and the killers aint there.
Becky Leeds
Will Young deserves Best male he was robbed last year. He's had a brilliant year and sold over 1.5 millions copies of Fridays Child, and had a sold out concert and Arena tour What's Lemar done to match this except show up at everything going for exposture. And don't even get me started on Jamie Cullen
kate
If there's any justice in the world, Lemar would leave right now and Will Young would win Best Male & Best Single! Also I think Will should be asked to perform. He is sensational singing live!
Katie
Okay so I'm not entirely convinced by all the nominations - Robbie for best song? Joss Stone for best female? franz for best band? (they've only been around 5 minutes! Is best band suddenly reduced to being judged on about 12 songs?) to name a few but am pleased to see that at least some overhyped nonsense has been left out. One word for you on this comment - Razorlight - dudes, they are not all that great, just mediocre, overplayed and overblown. Also on that subject, what about the ones who missed out on even a nod? 'Run' had be one of the anthems of last year and 'Take me out' (coming from, as you may have gathered, not the biggest Franz fan in the world as well), where are they on the single category? Silly me, edged out by a cover, BandAid might be for charity but that doesn't mean its good! However good to see Muse on the lists, good luck to them.
Animal
Kate bush has HAS HAS to win best british single of the last 25 years, she's a living legend
Zane L'amour
TEN THINGS THE BRITS '25 GOT WRONG .... 01) Even though i really dislike Busted's music, i think they deserve to be up 4 BEST POP ACT or something... 02) Dizzee Rascal should've been up 4 BEST MALE ... 03) Jay Sean should b up 4 BEST URBAN ACT... 04)...where the hell is Razorlight?; they deserved nominations 4 BEST LIVE ACT and BEST BREAKTHROUGH atleast! 05) And Hello.. Britney Spears should defo b up 4 BEST INTERNATIONAL FEMALE, with 2 no.1 singles & a fantastic LP... 06)Westlife.. BEST POP ACT ??.. come on now 07)Outkast r fantastic, but, 'Speakerboxxx/the love below' was nominated for BEST INTERNATIONAL ALBUM last year , so why again this year??? it came out in 2003 !!!! ...08)the BEST SINGLE CATEGORY is a total blimmin' mess!!! i'm surprised they don't have Michelle Mcmannus up in there! ...09)alright so dance wasn't big this year but still... bring back the BEST DANCE ACT category... !!! ...10) and bring back BEST VIDEO!!!! x
adam weston
muse should win every category that they have been nominated for except maybe best album because it was released in sept 2003, which surely wouldn;t make it elegible for nomination?? But it is still one great album. Anyway they are the best live act at the moment and are the best group and rock act in the country at the moment. I don;t think they will win because they are not as popular as the likes of Franz Ferdinand which is a shame cus they deserve the recognition!!
Jenny - Sheffield
i have one thing to say to you..RAZORLIGHT!!!!
Heidi
Franz are the only band that makes sense to win their nominated awards. The band of 2004 is definitely Franz Ferdinand, no doubt about it. They have worked hard and long on their 2004 tour, and made sure that everyone knew their music and who they were. I don't care what anybody else says, Franz Ferdinand is my British band of 2004. :)
jackie
I t's really refreshing to see that the majority of this yesrs nominations are for credible artists rather than reality t.v winners who have little talent and no charisma or attituade. 2004 was undoubtably a tremendous year for british music with class acts such as Snow Patrol, Kasabian and Muse producing fantastic albums. It will be interesting to see the outcome of the awards and I really hope that we will see more quality music in 2005. My CD collection has never looked so healthy!! Rock on guys!!
Melanie
Franz should win. They deserve this. I know they're quite overhype but they're giving a new breathe to the UK music scene. Go FF!
Chris
Just wondered who the hell is on the panel that choices the nominations. Do these people listen to the music of today, so they check the stats, Albums, tours, singles. And just how does the Streets (a band) get nominated for best male artist??
ValW
Will Young for Best Male and Best Single (no contest!) As for Best Song, it IS a public vote so if you don't like it and you haven't voted against it, you've only yourself to blame if he wins. Leave Right Now has an Ivor Novello award to prove its quality, the only thing it hasn't done is pass the test of time, but that wasn't the point of this award. Will should also have been up for Best Live Act (2 sell-out tours should have been recognised, and if the Brits ever bothered to ask him to perform everyone could see what a quality live singer he is) and preferably Best Album as well. Both those categories are too rock-biased. I'd like to see Keane & the Scissor Sisters win everything they're nominated for, as well. Couldn't they find a better host than Chris Evans, though?
LAURA*~
Wooo Go MUSE!!!
Music
Lemar deserves to be in best male just as much as Will Young and Morissey and the rest. Lemars tour this year has sold out and his tour last year did. Went to it. Absolutely amazing! Lemar should win best male
He's amazing live
And his story for people who (really know his story (pre fame academy) is a great one! He or Dizzee Rascal should win best urban. Glad Daniel Bedingfield isnt in it as he's done absolute rubbish last year.
Sean,notts
I think that band aid should not be up for best single as it is simply a cover of an old song, and theyre shud be a seperate catergory for types of single this year not just a general one, where's eric prydz????
meee
THE LIBS R UP! YAYYYYYYYY. and best of luck to kasabian, the streets, and of course ss and ff
Adam
Jamie Cullem in best male category - vastly overrated. I think Will Young deserves the recognition here, he wins most public votes, he's sold the most records and he's had the most bums on seats this year - plus the songs and the singing aint half bad. Scissor sisters are awesome live and should walk the international categories. Just my opinion of course.
donna
Will Young for best male, song and single. He has had a great year, with a 5* platinum album and two sell out tours
Morgan
I'm overjoyed that Muse and Kasabian, as well as Tom Waits, all got nominations, but I'm pretty shocked that razorlight aren't nominated. But I think Franz Ferdinand (good, but insanely overhyped) will sweep the board, namely because it'll catch the tabloids attention when "winner takes all" so to speak.
Daniel
Where's Britney!
Hamish
someone asked how the streets can be best male solo. well its like this. theres one of him and he's a man.....
Hamish
why on earth did Will Young get nominated for the best song of the past 25 years GIVE ME A BREAK!!! there is no way that leave right now is in the top five songs of the past 25 years no way the award should go to Queen and We Are The Champions as is such a great song
holly
killers album has defo been one of the best this year, it would be a crime for them not to walk away with something. I agree with the majority here- where are razorlight?
Peter G
Overall the nominations are very good and reflect one of the best years in music for a decade. Franz deserve to win the lot as they are the best band in the world right now but Keane also deserve to win something for their year. Can't believe Razorlight and The Ordinary Boys aren't there though.
Maor disappointment in the Best Single category though. 2004 was the best year for brilliant singles since 1997 or even beyond. Everybody's Changing, Take Me Out, Somewhere Only We Know, and First Of The Gang To Die should've been in the final five!
emma
MORRISSEY TO WIN!!! THE MAN THE LEGEND!!!
Sixpence
First thought are - bands are in abundance this year - which is good. There's such a lot of good ones around at the moment. I love Keane and Scissor Sisters personally.
I think whoever gets the Best Single or Best Song awards will be fair, as Joe Public is voting - and you can't go against that!
Best Male - I would definately go for WILL YOUNG, and whilst on the subject, how comes he wasn't nominated in the Best Album? I believe his "Fridays Child" sold One and A half million (5xplatignum). Also - why's he not singing - he's amongst the few who always only sing LIVE! (On the subject - I'm sick of so-called singers MIMING - it beggars belief that they can be called "singers" - they're just "performers"!) Good Luck to McFly - a bit of fresh air!
mike
Generally pleased with the nominations, but how on earth did Lemar manage to get himself nominated for Best Male?? he may well be flavour of the time but his tour didnt sell out and his album has hardly set the world alight either, I always thought the Brits was about recognising an artist who had had a huge impact on people during the Brits year? I'm pleased to see that Will Young has been nominated in the Best Male category, he's had a phenominal year! Just one question, why on earth isnt he performing this year? after being awarded a Brit for Breakthrough artist in 2003 then nominated for Best Male 2004 now again in 2005 I'm amazed that he's been overlooked in the line-up!
Siri
Franz Ferdinand is the only choice - they zero in on both my pleasure centers: my hips and my brain. A perfect combination of great tunes, style, and an unforgettable live show.
adriana
Go Franz! they deserve to win after all their hard work, besides, they make great music that we enjoy!
Jessica, w.sx
I think that the killers should win best international album, just great tunes- heard mr brightside on r1 and i had to go buy the album ive seen them live at shep bush empire back in nov last yr just amazing- going to see them again in feb. Franz are also wicked glad they have had lots of nominations, they have a great unique sound nice and refreshing and again another wicked gig ive been too def win live act... so many good bands it is hard to decide Keane have also burst out there in the past yr great songs and they were said to be the 'new' coldplay- i think they are better than coldplay-Coldplay are good too but Tom has such a vocal talent Chris Martin just cant match it, such a shame razorlight didnt appear, i guess there is always next yr :)
Tim
Scissor Sisters wipe the floor with everyone else. If they don't beat U2 it wil be a complete farce! great to see Kate Bush up for best song, though it's pretty obvious Robbie will win.
G Pearce
"Leave Right Now" IS a great song and it is the song which is nominated. It so happens that Will Young is the singer who interpreted it so well. It should also be noted that this song won (for Eg White) the Ivor Novello Award as Best Song this year. A good omen I hope. Also Will Young should win best single as Your Game is a great song - written by Will. Best Male would be good too.
Kari L.
Franz, you guys deserve every award you've been nominated for. Crossing my fingers for ya!
Becky
this years brit awards are rubbish! Busted weren't nominated in 1 catergory! I know last year they got 1, but it's stupid, as they were massive last year!
Abnormal
To ignore ingenious Razorlight is just revolting!!!!! At least Kasabian made it, fingers crossed. A little too much excitement for Franz, but they really rock, if they win, the world is ok :-))
Reuben
No razorlight?
i really dont think franz ferdinand should win any awards, but keane should win all that they are up for?
Best single, whats with that, theres been some much better songs this year!
Emma the Claire
Franz Ferdinand deserve all five awards, as they truly are THE band of the last 12 months. Their music is different and great to listen to, all four of the band are incredibly talented at playing each of their instruments and they have a distinctive style that has caught the eye of people around the world.Their influence on the musical world is staggering, and to have done this in such a short time, and for working so hard, Franz should scoop all 5 awards at this year's Brits.
Sara Lawson
OK, here's what i think.
Will Young should be Best Male, the public adore him, proven by his massive record sales and sell-our tours this year. Mock all you like if it makes you feel cool, this guy has the most distinctive voices to come out of the UK for years, and he delivers- every time-live performances that are faultless. The public have voted Leave Right Now in the Top 5 songs, everyone had the chance to vote - yes, even you dissers. But his popularity won out. Your view is not popular-our view is. Live with it!
Will for Best Male, best Single for the brilliant Your Game and Best Song for LRN!!!!
Lisa Howard
Will deserves Best Male, no question. He wrote Your Game and it's a great track...hopefully it will win Best Single. As for Leave Right Now in the Best Song 25 category...it's a classic and deserves it's place.
Roberta
Some good some bad.. Best live act Jamie Cullum?? so wooden you wouldnt think he is alive.. Best female Natasha Bedingfield? Noo bad enough having her Brother here (and he robbed Will Youngs best male last year) Best single Angels? I hate it!!!! most overhyped song in the last 20 years!! So I would like Franz to get best album and breakthru.. erm Jamelia for best female.. and best male..
Will he deserves it.
Paula
Will Young has got to get best male this year. People can laugh, but as a live performer he is amazing. If he loses out to Lemar, then Ill never watch or be interested in the Brits again. As Will has worked so hard over the past year, brilliant album, 2 sell out tours, and sell out summer festivals. Glad to see Muse up for awards and so hope they get one, love em.
katie
I'm so disappointed that Busted haven't been nominated! Y the hell haven't they? They toally deserve to be nominated again as they r awesome, & r not splitin up i must say, all the rumours r false! I say take away mcfly as i can't stand them!! They ain't gona win! I'm glad Green Day are nominated tho as i think they are wicked!
Da McBusted Queen
Why are busted not nominated??? They are by far the best British Pop Act! What were ppl thinkin puttin WESTLIFE in there! I mean they are just four guys in suits singin rubbish its not like they put any effort in!
lisa
i think that busted should of been nominated and that mcfly should of had more than 1 nomo
A James
Muse were fantastic at Glasto and for them not to win at least one of their four would be a shame. That said Muse's Absolution was released last year so I don't see why it wasn't nominated last year if it was that good, perhaps an example of how they award sales rather than talent...
cassie
i think sissor sister should defo win one they rock and there music is completley different from everyone else and thats why i love them coz they dont sound like every body else whos around at the moment.
Mims
Franz Ferdinand have gone from being penniless Glasgow scenesters to teen idols in only a year. But the point with Franz is not that their faces are all over schoolgirls' walls, but that they do, indeed, make us dance, and opened the floodgates for a new wave of excellent angular dance-rock. Also, give the Libs a Brit, their implosion has been heartbreaking and it needs a slightly happier ending!
Michelle
I am a Franz fan and think they should win at least one award because they have worked so hard to get to where they are at now.Franz are way better than Maroon 5,who should not win any awards.Franz not only are better than Maroon 5 but they make music for us girls to dance to and can rock out any fan of any age. Franz Ferdinand rock!Bravo Franz!
Carrie
i think Franz ferdinanz are definately the best british breakthrough this year they have done really well, and as for best pop act wat on earth are westlife doing in there? get them out and put busted in there busted rock man! libertines definataly deserve to be in there there great!
Wakes
There isn't much point in moaning that your favourite band is not nominated. Like, who cares? BUT while I'm here how is Joss Stone 'urban'? And great though Outkasts album is, it was released in September 2003. Catch up!
Erma
Franz Ferdinand definitely. Their music is amazing-- it brings back the kind of music that I miss while having something new. Catchy, danceable beats and intelligent lyrics, that is enough for them to be my pick.
julie k
For the people moaning about the Best Song nominations ... where were you when the voting took place? The British public voted for Will Young ... isn't that what the Brits is suposed to be about, what the public like? Will Young is in there because he is one of the most popular artists in the country and Leave Right Now is a classic song that will stand the test of time. He's there because the British public love him. Get used to it!
Julie M
I have no problem with most of the nominations. Franz Ferdinand are as over-hyped as the Darkness were last time around and will probably fade next year. Razorlight should have got a nomination. Good luck Scissor Sisters ... and if Will Young doesn't win Best Male this time (outstanding no.1 album, fantastic singles, two sell-out tours in one year, the most popular male artist in the country by far)then the Brits committee want sacking!
Dan
I'm happy to see Muse getting their deserved recognition, but a lot of the other nominations are terrible, focussing on popularity instead of talent.
Not 1 of the single's nominated is credible.
The Best song award is pretty shakey too... I am stunned to see Will Young nominated.
Arri
Good for Franz!
I think they are absolutely amazing, the deserve every award they are nominated for, especially Best Live Act. When i saw them play at Exeter University they were fantastic, the crowd were really up for it and it was the greatest night of my life to date.
They have influenced so many people and are definitely one of those bands you just cant help but love.
Léa
Franz Ferdinand ohlalala Encore Encore Encore!!!
They deserve those awards, they have accomplished an incredible job! So we shall not let them down! x
Olga
Way to go Franz! I'm sure they've got good odds of snagging a few (if not all). After all that touring, they're deserving!
Jonni
the streets best male??? how does that work...hmmmmm
Suzie
I think that Busted should hae definatly been nominated for best pop act and i agree embrace and razorlight should be there
Jenny
Franz surely do deserve their five nominations after a fantastic year, producing a great record and electric live shows. Hope Franz come away with awards on the night!
I dont really understand why Razorlight aren't nominated for anything either...
Robert
The best British rock Act nominees should definately have Razorlight,Franz Ferdinand,Kasaibian and certainly not muse
Stephanie Cuevas
Franz are the bestest new band out there!!!!!They totally deserve all the accolades they get. I hope they win 'em all!!!!
Jack
Oh yeah Franz rock! I nearly disagreed with all of the awards at the MTV europe music awards but the Brits are looking good.
suzie
Good on the boys Franz, they deserve to lead the Brit pack. Best band around just now, they should win all 5 of the categories. Are definetly the best live act aswell, best show i've ever been to. If they lose to the Streets I will be highly disappointed. Good Luck lads!
ANGRY mr cheese
where's BUSTED?!? TAKE AWAY MCFLY AND REPLACE 'EM WITH BUSTED!! ARGH ARGH ARGH!!!
viv
glad to see snow patrol getting the recognition they deserve.
az
Tell me i've read that wrong- Will Young for best single of the past 25 years? Absolute nonsense and makes the Brits look like a joke, a shame when bands like Muse (an absolute shoe-in for best live act after their stunning performance at Earls Court last month) are finally getting the recognition they deserve.
Rhian
So far, Franz Ferdinand has been the best band I've heard all year. They deserve every single nomination and award that they get.
Shani
Franz Ferdinand overrated? I think not. They have breathed new life into an industry that has been dominated by disposable junk and fashionable wannabes. Live, they are invigorating and energetic, and they have even won over the notoriously brit-rock snubbing American music fans. Every song on their album has its own life and feel, distinguishing it from too many recent albums whose tracks were indistinguishable from each other. From what I’ve heard of the new songs, their second album only promises more of the same. They’ve sure made music for this girl to dance to.
Justine
Why no razorlight?
JR
Absolutely stunned that Razorlight aren't nominated. Definately the best live act I've seen this/last year.
James Reynolds
Snow Patrol should have won alll of the them - better than those wanabees franz - they made one song - get over it people it wasnt that good either!!!!! and where are the lostprophets!!!!!
chris
The brit awards are great.Keane got to win a award. Their album was the best of 2004
Dom
what about razorlight! ridiculous!
Debbie
I think that mcfly and keane will win because they are both great.
Lola
Someone needs to look at the single nominations again. They are so bad. Surely there must be something better to offer. The other nominations are fantastic but the singles nominations ruin the credibility of British music.
Emma
Where's Razorlight??? Outrageous!!!
holl
where r Busted???????? They should b up there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lee
About time all the acts are uk not likek last year when it was all americans...
Soph
Some good nominations. Just 1 question: Where r Razorlight and Embrace?
Dan
Kasabian, Franz, Streets, Muse all deserveto be there. Why do they nominate Westlife surely the people who sang the songs better in the 50's should be nominated or pete waterman and Simon Cowell. The actual popstars are puppets on strings and unless there is an award for that then ship the pop out of the brits and get some proper music in there. Where are Razorlight and Mr D Rice. Sort it out or re name it the CDUK awards
A McKenzie - Pontefract
The field is quite narrow. There's a handful of groups who appear to have all the focus with very little variety and it's basically all indie-guitar bands. Having said that, there have been plenty of more discerning acts worthy of nomination such as Help She Can't Swim and Thievery Corporation from our own shores and looking at the best International group - no Wilco, no Modest Mouse - The Black Keys? Nobody heard of them? Franz and Muse are the best bands on offer here but people really need to open they're mind to the myriad of sounds and artists that are really out there.
Adam
best international album has to be the killers
frank
live act just positively absolutely HAS to be Muse. Like both Franz and MUse, and having see them both live it has to go to Muse no questions asked, as with rock act. Would love the Killers to go away with something- hot fuss was one of the best albums of the year- but get the feeling marron 5 or scissor sisters will pip them to it
Matt
Killers have deffinatly released the best album of the year! So they should DEF win thier group! I LOVE THE ZUTONS TOO!!
Becky, McFly 4eva!
I agree with Tom! Kasabian shouldn't be up for anything they need to sort out their attitude towards fellow musicians and keep their opinions to themsleves. Muse for Best Live Act, they deserve every award they are up for. McFly for Best Pop Act, definitely success story of the year.
Graham Searle
Franz Ferdinand have relighted a spark in Britain for legions of skinny boys with guitars who wear their influences on their sleeves, and are usually buried in the charts by piles and piles of pop crud. They deserve every single success they come across.
Cristíona
Franz deserve every nomination they got. Good on ye boys! As much as I like Muse, I'd much prefer to see Franz lose out (if they must) to the likes of Snow Patrol or the Libertines. Dare I say Muse are over-rated...?
Debbi
I think its only fair that Morrissey wins best male. He has been contributing into music for a lot longer compared to some fo the other nominees. The killers should win Best International Group
Kristine
I'm a Franz fan all the way and I just hope they win at least one award. Maroon 5 should not win any awards because they suck.
Hannah
Two words- Franz rocks
Josie
Franz TRULY deserve all their nominations. A class record, and they have accomplished so much after just a year, 5 noms, Well done Franz! Scoop the lot!
Ocean
MUSE should take home the awards. This past year MUSE has proven to be a fantastic "BRITISH" group with sold out "LIVE" "ROCK" acts all over the world and their new "ALBUM" Absolution delivers greatness at its best.
Anne
I think Will Young for best male and best song ever, would love him to win best single too for Your Game as that was one of the songs he wrote himself, not sure if he will get it tho
Sonia
I really hope Muse get the awards they're nominated for, especially best live act- it definitely should be their year this year. What's going on with the best single category?!!
Danny, Cambridge
If the Scissor Sisters don't win several awards, I'll vomit in disgust. Btw Westlife in the pop catagory but not Britney 'I released Toxic' Spears - That's crazy!
amanda
AT LAST!!! Decent music being noticed by the awards people!! Personally i love Franz and think they are awesome live (and have seen the others and in my opinion they were the best by far) but also love keane and SP so would like to see a fair spread. Makes a change from all the teeny pop that usually sweep the boards! I do also agree about the best single category- personally take me out, somewhere only we know, and run should have been considered as well as the likes of golden touch and gravity.
Becca
Best Album, where is 5x platinum FRIDAY'S CHILD.Best Live Act ? Jamie who,Scissor Sisters Yes F.F.no way.as for the Beds ugh.
nuttah
It would be a crime if Kelis didn't win Best International Female!!!!!! her 3 singles and album beat everyone else 10 times over.
barthy
Glad to see franz, snow patrol et al getting nominations, but it's disappointing that there's no mention of embrace, razorlight or ash. And why isn't american idiot up for best international album? As for will young being nominated for best song of last 25 years . . . that made me laugh an awful lot. There are better songs released every 25 hours!
Louise
Replace The Streets with Razorlight and you'd have a perfect set of nominations
ben murphy
why oh why is joss stone up for 3 nominations. she is the most overated artist i think i have ever seen and i would'nt give her the time of day. let's hope she picks up nothing and fades away out of the public eye as soon as possible. also hope that outkast take all they are up for as they truly deserve it
woot muse
how can Muse not win Best Live Act after making Oasis and Paul look so bad at Glasto
bronagh, belfast
dont reckon dat natasha bedingfield will win best nu comer. hopefully mcfly fingers crossed! they deserve it more than anyone in that group.
lol
Kate J
Take me to the clouds above & Lola's theme- what a joke! Well done to the killers for their two nominations, theres something wrong if they walk with nothing! Why hasn't Johnny Borrell & co been included?!
Stevey D
Muse all the way! Nice to see some real talent being awarded. Breakthrough act - The Zutons? Jamie Cullum for British Male, although The streets should get some recognition. British Single? You what! Someone has been living somewhere else for the past year! How are they the best singles of 2004....fishy, very fishy. Best song from past 25 years...something going on there too. Pull it together people and nominate some good songs. Will Young - no chance, Queen or robbie williams possibly. International breakthrough act - Maroon 5 with their more original BREAKTHROUGH sound. Makes sense really.
Amy
I am so pleased to see Morrissey nominated! He is the most eloquent man in pop music for the past twenty years and if Lemar wins over Moz it will proove how tasteless we have all become. And Love Will Tear Us Apart is probably the most achingly beautiful song ever written, i don't know what the award is for but it belongs to Joy Division!
loo
Im pleased with the nominations. For years theres been too much urban music but this year theres some good rock. which is cool. franz ferdinand are brill. those who say otherwise just dont get it or haven't see them live which is where they're at their best. muse r cool too. i dnt rate maroon 5 as much but they've got talent. im pleased to see the killers there. finally someone has recognised their brill album.
Sarah Louise
Scissor Sisters should win all 3 Brit awards that they are up for they are a great band! Hopefully Will Young will win as well :-D
Elisa, Wiltshire
WELL DONE MUSE!!!!!!!!! They deserve to win with everything that happened last year also they are examples of true musical talent and they put on brilliant live shows, especially at Earls Court last month :)
Tra
All the catergories have pretty much the same few bands in them. They could at least try to be a bit more varied.
Christian
Like it or not, this will be Franz Ferdinand's year. I can see them winning all their categories with the exception of Best Live Act, which they DO NOT DESERVE to win (surely Muse??!!). Personally, I'd have Muse and The Streets as the big winners, but good on the Franz. At least the Darkness won't be winning...
McFly Fan 101
McFLY will win with no doubt. They are so good and will be looking to follow on from their success at the Smash Hits awards. Goooooooooo McFLY!
lynsey
I hate how the BRITS have tried to be "cool" the past cuple of years. Everyone knows that pop music is what sells best and that its mostly pop fans who watch the BRITS so why have bands that practically all sound the same (all the ones in the rock category), it makes it so boring when your watching the BRITs n its bands who you can't even name a song of, which are being nominated in best group and best rock group category and other categories, just coz they are "credible".Ive been disappointed in the BRITs the past few years. Bring POP bands back into the BRITS thats what makes it exciting! I hope Westlife win best Pop Act, because they have really proved themselves this year, as everyone said they would spilt up after brian left..but there still here, stronger than ever!
jen
i think sissor sisters have a good chance and franz do as well gwen is good chance also what are girls aloud up for best pop they are rubbish i think their should have been more rap hop& r & b why what about nelly or snopp dogg parelle williams bbest song robbie or queen
Clare
Franz ferdinand ARE over-rated and don't deserve to win over muse! Joy division for best song and Jet for international breakthrough act!
david sharples
How can Band Aid 20 be nominated for best single??? It is 20 years old!
Sophie Quinn
Well done to Will Young! I hope he wins Best Song, it's just one of those that'll be remembered 10, 20 maybe even 30 years time. He should win Best Male too. Franz Ferdinand did very well, I love Take Me Out, but McFly should have gotten a few more nominations.
Rich H
You can all leave will alone he should win everything he is nominated foe and deserves 2 he has had an amazing year! Franz Ferdinand need to leave-RUBBISH! Jamelia and scissor sisters should do well also! Muse are best live and Joss Stone best Urban!
Ro and Nat
We reckon Jamie Cullum is great and Keane deserve to win atleast one of the awards they are nominated for! Keane over Franz Ferdinand any day!
Nick Hughes
At last Brits recognition for the best British Band in recent years -Muse. We have to consider which of our talents are good enough to export and the recent EMA awards showed that Muse are a band loved globally and are rightly acknowledged in their home country. Also good to see more of an emphasis on home grown artists.
Sandy
Muse for Best Live Act, Will for Best Male, Snow Patrol and Keane to put a brake in the works of the over-rated Franz Ferdinand.
Ben
Reading through that list, I just find it unbelievable that Embrace don't have a single nomination. Are people just totally ignorant to a class act when they come across one?!
Beccie
Good on McFly!! They've been working hard all year they definitely deserve it guys! They should win over a manufactured band like Girls Aloud! They have talent and should have something to show for it!
andy m
well done muse, they're finally reaping the critical awards they've so richly deserved for the past five years. they should win possibly all the awards they're nominated for, especially live and best rock act. but the best song award is a joke. joy division yes. but no radiohead and no smiths?hmm.. i smell something fishy.
Sarah from Manchester
LMC vs U2 - Take Me To The Clouds Above?! They're having a Laugh! The whole best single category is a bit of a joke really. Where's Golden Touch by Razorlight?
A Fan Of Real Music, UK
I am impressed to see that Morrissey is up for Best Male and PJ Harvey for Best Female. It does appear that pop has been shunned this year and I for one couldn't be happier. Proper guitar bands (ie NOT Mcfly/Busted) are finally gaining some long overdue credit that manufactured acts have for too long been taking away from them. As for next year I don't think Busted, Mcfly and Noise Next Door will be around by then, hopefully fake guitar boybands will be long gone.
Steve, UK
Its great to see all the good bands getting recognition for once. I was laughing when I saw that the awful Mcfly only had 1 nomination. Also except for Mcfly all the performers are good, looking forward to Athlete and Scissor Sisters. However I believe the 25 'best' songs is a load of rubbish; Kate Bush, Queen and Joy Division are good, but how on earth has Will Young been seen as better than Radiohead, The Smiths, The Clash, The Jam and the million other real bands/artists out there.
lola
If Muse don't win The Live award then there is something VERY wrong. Headlining Glastonbury when critics didn't think they were ready for it and then being though by many to be the best act there, as well as becoming the band with the lowest amount of records sold to be able to pull off a sell out headline gig at Earls Court...not just once but twice, all because of their live brilliance and reputation. This award was made for the band.
They should also get the rock award.
tom
Kasabian.... over Razorlight??? What's going on! I know it's not considered 'cool' but surely bands such as Girls Aloud or McFly have achieved so much more this past year than Kasabian (who only released their debut album 4 months ago). Where's Katie Melua in the best british female? Jet have been around longer than the past year - so how can they be breakthrough and the OutKast album came out here in 2003? I think the nominations do not reflect the entire music achievements of 2004!
Andy Guest
Kasabian Should win them all...and def best live act of 04!
clare 19 leics
after wathing kasabian at reading and bham academy, i know they are a great live band and they should win.the way they preform is great. also they are much beter than franz. they have 1 of the best albumsof last 2004.best band in leicester plus the world.how come will young beat wonderwall in best song,a disgrace to british music..
hitchy
I must say, as a huge Muse fan I am so glad to see the lads getting some well deserved attention. After BEATING Franz Ferdinand twice at the MTV Europe Awards, whats the odds of the superior act winning again? Muse have proved that they have what it takes to stick around in music circles. Whether Franz do the same remains to be seen!
Evelyn
Reasonable for most. Why the Killers aren't in best international group when Maroon 5 have the 2 nods who knows. But what happened with best single? A group of nonentities and bad songs - Band Aid please! Best single?!?!? Where is 'Take Me Out' or 'Run' - 2 of the anthems of the year, both British. Can't be a timing issue - the Brits have shown scant regard for strict calendar years before. What limited fool chose this category? Not one of those in it should be there.
clare, leics
kasabian should win them all.Jamie cullum best live act, you got to be joking!!! Wheres embrace and razorlight.
Ruth, Belfast
As usual, The Divine Comedy has been completely overlooked, you can't get a more talented musician in the pop world today and never, ever receives a reward of any kind. If you are looking for a Best Live Act you only needed to be at their Royal Albert Hall performance to see how great Neil Hannon is live. I think it is absolute shocker that year after year, the talent of The Divine Comedy is overlooked, have some vision and nominate talent for a change and not because someone is popular. I saw Franz Ferdinand live and it was like watching paint dry, this is a band for people that think they have found something edgy and different but in fact this band rip off so many different bands and artists and get away with it.
john b
where's razorlight?
What do you think?
