Moogie Wonderland is an arts and music clubnight based in Rochester in Kent. The aim is to introduce new, unheard music to followers as well as playing some rare musical gems from the past. The night is enhanced by conceptual art displays, video projections and literature. John Peel Day also sees Moogie Wonderland's first birthday, in which you can get in for free at Enigma Wine Bar on Rochester High Street from 10pm til 2am. Peel's (and Huw Stephens' and Rob Da Bank's) influence on the night can be heard throughout - from Camera Obscura to Stereolab, from Serge Gainsbourg to The Fall, from Los Campesinos! to Slow Club. The clubnight has ground out a cult following in the South East and has had national press in The Guardian and Time Out magazine. The evening is a celebration of everything John Peel provided to us and a chance for fans of twee/indie/psych/lounge/noise to hear things they don't normally hear at a clubnight.

Celebrating John Peel Day- Thursday October 11th
Upstairs at The Prince Albert
On Thursday October 11th, the south’s premier new music show South:Live and Brighton’s new music venue The Prince Albert will be celebrating the life and work of John Peel on the evening that marks the third anniversary of his last broadcast. Suitably, the venue sports a wall-sized portrait of the Britain’s greatest new music champion, and the bill promises an eclectic musical line-up featuring some of the south coasts most experimental, genre-busting and down right noisy bands. Between the live sets, DJ Melita will be spinning tracks selected exclusively from Peel's “Festive 50” from 1976-2003.
Brighton’s BANGBANGBANG! fuse the energy and attitude of 70’s punk with the heavy guitars reminiscent of the 90s alternative rock scene. Fans have described their gigs as being “like a brick in the face! And that's a good thing!", and John O’Noland from Musicwriter says that "Front(wo)man Natalie has more balls than half the pretentious self absorbed musicians that are knocking about at the moment, and she’s not afraid to show it."
Netley Abbey’s Rival Joustas look a bit like an indie band that needs a haircut. What they deliver, however is “a white hot freak out of epic proportions that includes a mini stage invasion, drummer Morgan running down the bar banging a tambourine, and singer Thomas dancing about like he's got jump leads attached to [a sensitive area of his anatomy- Ed]. All this and songs that somehow fall into about five genres and then kick the living s***t out of them”.
Spotted at this year’s Brighton Live festival Kopek take their musical lead from bands like Múm, Low and Six Organs of Admittance, and their set promises a hypnotic blend of post rock where minimalist and folk sensibilities collide.
Where: Upstairs at The Prince Albert, Trafalgar St, Brighton
When: Thursday October 11th
What Time: Doors open 7:30pm
How Much: FREE!

NB: We're adding more gigs all the time. There's a massive list to get through, keep checking back for further additions.
