PEEL AT
GLASTONBURY
2005
The events of 2005 ensured John, even after his death, would remain part of the festival he had loved so much. The New Bands Stage, where many Peel favourites had played over the years, was re-named the John Peel stage in his honour. "He was a master of choosing the bands that were going to make it," said organiser Michael Eavis. "And he had a knack of finding them."
One of John's favourite bands, The Undertones, on hearing about the new stage name, were excited enough to telephone organisers and ask to play.
"As soon as The Undertones found about the John Peel Stage they were on the phone asking if they could play because John helped make them too," Eavis told the Bristol Evening Post. Eventually The Undertones played the Pyramid Stage, but, as many festival goers said, the whole weekend was dedicated to John's memory.
