Lady Gaga, global music icon and film star: the joy of music is to make people happy

Mark Savage speaks to Lady Gaga, the American singer-songwriter and actor, about the challenges of fame, finding love and the joy of writing music that makes people happy.

In an updated version of an interview originally broadcast in April, BBC Music Correspondent Mark Savage speaks to Lady Gaga, American singer-songwriter and actor.

She has spent 18 years in the music industry, selling more than 170 million records, and winning an Oscar for best original song. In this conversation she reflects on the making of her latest album, as well as the pressures of fame and maintaining a public persona.

Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta in 1986, Lady Gaga has become known for her flamboyant fashion and bold public image and has often found herself in the glare of the media spotlight. In 2019, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
