Macky 2
Macky 2 tells DJ Edu about the challenges of promoting Zambian music internationally, why he has made his lyrics more family friendly, and why his next album will be his last.
Macky 2 has been delighting Zambians with his tunes since 2011, when his song Mami (niuze) became a hit. In 2013, he won album of the year at the Zambia Music Awards, and picked up song of the year two years later for Mama Rebecca. In 2014, Macky 2 became a household name across Africa when he appeared in the final series of Big Brother Africa.
Macky 2 comes from a musical family – his brother is Chef 187, a successful hiphop artist, and their younger sister Towela launched herself onto the Zambian scene a couple of years ago. He tells DJ Edu about the challenges of promoting Zambian music internationally, about why he has made his lyrics more family friendly, and why his next album will be his last.
