Zeynab Abib

Ata Ahli Ahebla talks to versatile Beninese singer Zeynab Abib, who has worked with many big names in African music, including Awilo Longomba.

Zeynab Abib is a versatile and talented singer from Benin. She has worked with a list of big names in African music including Awilo Longomba, and she is an Afrima award winner for best West African female artist. Before the travel restrictions were in place, Ata Ahli Ahebla, friend of This Is Africa and presenter of C’est Le Moment music show on BBC Afrique, travelled to Cotonou to meet her. They discuss the way Zeynab has managed to range across genres including Afrobeats, R’n’B and hip-hop, as well as traditional music, and why traditional music means so much to her. Zeynab also reveals her passion for children’s rights, and her admiration for her very famous ‘big sister’ from Benin, Angelique Kidjo.

DJ Edu is at the ready with ten uplifting tracks from ten different African countries, including Mozambique and Somalia.
