Mexico's jarocho folk music
The son jarocho of Veracruz, Mexico remains popular thanks to bands like Mono Blanco and Quetzal.
Music journalist Betto Arcos reports on the son jarocho folk music of his native Veracruz in Mexico. Son jarocho was made famous through the song La Bamba and a typical line-up features the 8-stringed jarana and requinto guitars. The style has evolved over centuries and remains popular today thanks to bands like Mono Blanco and Quetzal.
