In November 1994, the Kenyan Tegla Loroupe became the first black African woman to win a major international marathon – with a surprise win in New York. She tells David Whitty how a tough upbringing in the mountains of her homeland helped her break barriers and pave the way for African women to dominate marathon-running. The programme was first broadcast in 2014.
