There's growing criticism of the Israeli government's decision to step up its war against Hamas by taking control of Gaza City. One of Israel's staunchest allies, Germany, has halted military exports and the European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, urged Benjamin Netanyahu's government to reconsider.
