New Yorkers cast ballots in early voting in mayoral election

The race to be the next mayor of America’s biggest city New York is under way. Early voting ends today, with election day set for Tuesday. Polls suggest the likely winner will be 34-year-old Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, who’s facing off against former governor Andrew Cuomo — now running as an independent — and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
Also in the programme: Armed police in Britain have arrested two men after a mass stabbing attack on a train in eastern England. Ten people were taken to hospital, nine with life-threatening injuries.
