Deal reached to end US shutdown

A breakthrough came when some Democratic senators decided to vote with Republicans.

A deal has been reached in the United States to end what has now become the country's longest government shutdown. A breakthrough came about after a number of Democratic senators broke their party's blockade to vote with Republicans.

The BBC director general Tim Davie and head of news Deborah Turness have resigned after criticism that a documentary misled viewers by editing a speech by Donald Trump. It's been described as an extraordinary moment in the history of the BBC.
