
Spending deal to US government shutdown cleared
A group of Democrats broke their party's blockade to vote with Republicans.
US Senators have taken a major step towards ending the longest government shutdown in American history, after backing a compromise deal. The breakthrough came after a number of Democratic senators agreed to support a Republican stopgap measure to extend government funding until the end of January and to back a larger package to fully fund several key agencies.
