Ukraine has been awarded candidate status by the European Union, meaning it could become a member state in the future. It applied to join shortly after Russia's invasion.
Ukraine has been awarded candidate status by the European Union, meaning it could become a member state in the future. It applied to join shortly after Russia's invasion back in February. Moldova has also been made a candidate. President Zelensky and some EU leaders have praised the decision - while the Kremlin appears uninterested.
