
New Orleans braced for Tropical Storm Barry

The coastline of the US state of Louisiana is being battered by crashing waves driven by winds still growing in strength as tropical storm approaches. Storm Barry is expected to become a hurricane before it makes landfall later on Saturday. Rising water levels have stirred fears of a breach of flood defences - put in place around New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina fourteen years ago, when 80 per cent of the city was submerged.
