Aung San Suu Kyi: hearing in The Hague begins
The ICJ hears a case accusing Myanmar of genocide against the Rohingya Muslim minority.
She is not expected to speak in the Hague until Wednesday, when she is expected to argue that the court has no jurisdiction and that Myanmar was targeting Rohingya militants. More than seven hundred thousand Muslim Rohingyas fled Myanmar in 2017 following a military operation that the UN said included systematic rape, murder and torture.
Also on the programme; police in New Zealand are investigating the deaths of tourists following a volcanic eruption on White Island. Six people are now confirmed dead, and officers say they have given up hope of finding any of the eight missing people alive. And protesters in northeast India have set fire to tyres and cut down trees to block roads in response to a controversial citizenship bill.
