
US vice president and secretary of state to arrive in Turkey shortly
President Erdogan of Turkey urged to end his military offensive against the Kurds.
The Americans will meet President Erdogan, who is determined to carve out a security zone in north-east Syria. President Trump has threatened to use sanctions to destroy Turkey's economy if it does not stop its invasion. It's also emerged that he wrote a letter last week urging Mr Erdogan not to launch his attack, but the Turkish leader threw it in the bin.
Also the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Brexit deal is under threat as his political allies in Northern Ireland, the DUP, reject his proposal to the EU. And Hong Kong's Legislative Council is suspended for a second day after the chief executive Carrie Lam is again heckled by pro-democracy lawmakers.
